Escape the Algorithm: How I Turned My Notes into the Most Inspiring Feed I’ve Ever Scrolled

Let's be real—social media feeds aren't what they used to be.

I don't know about you, but I used to get actual satisfaction from scrolling through X or LinkedIn. Genuine thought leader content that sparked ideas & got me thinking.

But over the past year? Those feeds have deteriorated. The algorithms changed, the platforms shifted, and suddenly I'm seeing less inspiration and more... noise.

Then I read something from Sari Azout that hit me like a bolt of lightning:

"Stop mindlessly consuming the internet and start mindfully curating it. You need a space away from social media's compulsive rhythm, where your ideas can grow at their own pace."

And it got me thinking... what if I could create my OWN feed based entirely on my notes?

Instead of mindlessly scrolling through whatever the algorithm decided to show me, what if I could scroll through ideas that would actually increase my curiosity & build my knowledge at the same time?

So I built my own "simulated social feed" using AI (yeah this is the kind of thing I do on a Sunday morning for fun).

I put together a simple prompt that turns my existing notes into fresh social media-style posts, and I can't tell you how much fun I've had with this over the last couple of days.

Here's the prompt I use:

How to make this work for you

If you use any note-taking app—just dump your notes into any LLM (ChatGPT, Claude, etc.) and use this prompt.

If you use Tana specifically, you can set it up as a command using the Chat With AI Module to run on one of your notes (or a bunch of them).

How I actually use this:

After the AI generates the first post based on my notes, I interact with it just like I would with a real social media feed. I either:

  • Type "next" to scroll to the next post if it doesn't spark anything special
  • Or make a comment on the post (just like I would on social media)

The best part? When a post really resonates or sparks a new insight, I can capture that idea and add it right back into my notes.

What I love about this approach is how it tricks my brain into building knowledge without it "feeling" like work. And that's my favourite kind of thing to do—finding ways to make knowledge work feel effortless.

But there's something even more powerful happening here: it gives you an entirely different perspective on your notes.

Instead of the traditional research mode or trying to create summaries, you get your ideas served up as bite-sized "thoughts" in a format we're already wired to consume. Easily scrollable, easily consumed—but actually meaningful because they're YOUR ideas.

Now, I'm not suggesting you should dump all outside influences—you definitely don't want to get trapped in a vortex of only your own thoughts. But if you're stuck in doomscrolling or feeling like social media has lost its spark, this is a brilliant way to:

  • Break the doomscrolling cycle
  • Actually build your notes
  • Rediscover your own ideas from a fresh perspective
  • Spark new connections between existing thoughts
  • See patterns in your thinking you might have missed

So instead of opening up X or LinkedIn next time you feel that itch to scroll—why not spend 10 minutes scrolling through your own thoughts instead?

Trust me, you might be surprised at how much more inspiring your own ideas can be than whatever the algorithms are serving up these days.
