Ever notice how the hardest part of any task is just getting started?

As a solopreneur, those big business tasks can sit on your to-do list week after week. You know the ones - customer journey maps, launch plans, sales pages... all those things you know you need to do but keep putting off because, well, where do you even start?

The thing about running a business solo is that you have to figure everything out yourself. But what I've realised is that most tasks are quite straightforward once you get started.

It's the getting started part that trips us up.

Scientists call this 'activation energy' - that initial resistance you need to overcome to get moving. And it's especially true for those big business tasks that sit on your to-do list week after week šŸ˜…

And when you're working alone, without a team to bounce ideas off, that resistance can feel even stronger.

But here's where AI becomes your secret weapon āš”ļø

I've been using AI to help me get started on these tasks with a little framework I like to call 'The First Moves Framework'.

It helps me get started fast on almost any task and complete work quicker than I ever thought possible.

The framework has two pathways, depending on what's holding you back:

There are usually two things that hold you back from starting something.

The Direction Path

When you simply don't know HOW to get started. Maybe the task is unfamiliar, you haven't done it before and you literally just don't even know the first step.

Here's The Basic Framework For The Direction Path:

  1. Name the task
  2. Ask for direction
  3. Get step by step guidance.
  4. Take the first step.

And here is how I use it for different tasks

šŸ‘‰ Mapping Out Your Customer Journeys

"We're going to map out customer journeys. How should we get started?"

AI breaks down the stages to consider I start mapping the first stage

šŸ‘‰ Creating A Launch Plan For A New Product

"I'm planning a launch for my new template. How should we get started?"

AI breaks down basic launch phases I dive into mapping the first phase.

The Extraction Path

For when you know what to do but you're stuck in your head. These are usually tasks you do regularly but they require a bit of thinking & sometimes that gets stuck.

Here's The Basic Framework For The Extraction Path:

  1. Name the task
  2. Ask AI to inverview you
  3. Let AI pull out key info
  4. Structure what emerges.

And here is how I use it for different tasks

šŸ‘‰ Outlining a new course, workshop or presentation

"We're going to create a course about personal knowledge systems. Interview me on the topic so we can create an outline from my unique knowledge."

AI helps pull my knowledge & expertise out of my head and shapes it into an outline.

šŸ‘‰ Writing landing page copy

"I need to write a sales page for my workshop. Ask my any questions you need in order to write compelling copy."

AI helps me figure out the benefits, features & audience and shapes it into a compelling landing page.

Here's why the first moves framework is so juicy

It's addictive. (like, seriously addictive šŸ¤Ŗ)Once you see how quickly you can get moving on tasks that have been sitting in your "too hard" basket for weeks, you'll be hooked. And you'll want to tackle everything on your list.

No fancy prompts neededYou don't need to be some kind of prompt engineering wizard to make this work. Just show up & start the conversation. The simpler the better!

One move starts the domino effectIt's literally as simple as naming your task & letting AI help you take that first step. And once that first domino falls? The rest just keeps flowing. Before you know it you're halfway through something you've been putting off for weeks!

Works on any task. From tiny tasks to massive projects, stuff you've done 100 times before or things you've never attempted. Because really, we all just need that initial spark to get going āš”ļø.

ā€

Ready to test this out? Pick one task you've been avoiding forever & try either pathway. Trust me, you'll be clearing your backlog in no time!
