One of the biggest roadblocks I hear from new creators is they are not sharing their ideas online because they're not an 'expert' yet.
We live in a world where it has never been easier to share your ideas & build an audience (& a business) around your ideas.
Think about how hard that would have been 100 years ago or even 50 years ago?
So why then do we struggle so much to get started?
I suspect it's because for hundreds of years sharing ideas was the realm of experts & not for ordinary people.
I'll let you in on a little secret: I wasn't an expert when I got started as a creator.
I wasn't an expert writer. I didn't really know a thing about Notion, or note-taking or tools for thought.
I certainly didn't know about hooks, storytelling or how to construct tweets people would read.
I just had a problem I needed to solve.
➤ I wanted to get more organised while working from home & I was learning how to use Notion to do that.
As I learned something, I shared it on Twitter.
And within just a few months of consistently sharing I was recognised as an official Notion Ambassador & I launched my first paid Notion template.
People don't want to listen to experts as much as they want to hear about people who are just like them sharing their experiences.
Which means waiting until your an expert is the wrong way to go about this adventure.
Pick something to master. It can be anything. Growing indoor plants, Running a 5k, Focusing on your health. Whatever interests you. Just commit to mastering one thing.
Then document your journey.
Pick a platform & share one thing everyday. Share what you learn, your struggles, your progress or your setbacks.
You don't need to choose one thing forever. Start with a 30 day experiment and share your journey each day. I've done this countless times, with so many things: 30 Days of Ocean Swims, 30 Days of Gratitude, 30 Day of writing online, 30 days of home cooked meals.
30 Days gives you a nice timeframe to learn something and document your journey daily.
We often see our day to day life as very mundane. But I guarantee that everyday you are learning lessons, observing things and having new experiences.
And I can guarantee that someone a few steps behind you would be interested to hear about some of those lessons or advice.
So try this. At the end of each day go back through your day and think about a lesson or some advice you could share to someone a few steps behind you.
You might be a legitimate expert. Maybe you've been on your career path for a long time or you've pursued a hobby outside of work. Personally, I've been running Fitness Facebook Ads for the past 12 years. I've spent millions in ads & generated thousands in revenue for my clients.
It’s something I can easily share about.
Look back at your career, at your hobbies. What are you good at? What could you talk someone under the table about?
Now start to share one thing everyday. A tip, A mistake, A process. A lesson.
If you commit to this process you'll be amazed at how quickly you become an expert, but also how many people will start to resonate with your ideas.
