Four Ways To Find The Time To Be A Prolific Creator

A lot of people ask me how I can fit everything I do as a creator into my life while holding down a full-time job.

But when I look at my schedule it's an easy fit. I wake up early, I don't have kid commitments, I don't commute to an office, I watch very little Netflix.

Time is not the issue. It's headspace.

Having a full-time job, family, hobbies, and even the latest episode of RHOBH takes up a certain amount of your headspace. So you might feel like you have all this time, but you can't bring yourself to create.

So, if you want to keep your full-time gig AND become a creator the key is to reduce the headspace that is crowding out being able to create. Here's how I do it:

Create (& Use Systems). Having a system isn't a crutch, it's a way to reduce the cognitive load on your brain and get things done on autopilot. The more you can do this the more space you'll have.

Reduce Decisions. Decisions are one of the most draining things for your head. The more decisions you have to make the less creative you'll feel.

Write Thing Down. Get everything out of your head and you'll release a whole lot of headspace for creating.

Close Open Loops. I keep a list of things that are open loops for me. People I need to follow up on or things I need to check on. By writing it down it's not taking up space in my head.

Deal With Emotions. If you've had a particularly hard day at work it's hard to be fresh & creative. Find ways to let the emotions go & get in your creator zone fast.

Once you start to make headspace for being a creator you'll find the time constraints don't really matter.
